Results of Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers have been in use since the late 1800′s when fat was taken from a site on the patient’s body and injected back into the face. In the 1940′s paraffin was used, in the 1980′s bovine collagen was the dermal filler of choice. In our society with so much emphasis placed on appearing healthy, youthful, and attention put on the face many advances have been made in the last few years in dermal fillers. Dermal fillers are either temporary or permanent. The most popular dermal fillers are temporary because permanent dermal fillers carry a higher risk of infection and long term complications. Risks for side effects for temporary dermal fillers are few, most are short term, which disappear in a couple of days. The odds for long term complications with a temporary dermal filler are practically zero because the dermal filler is absored by the body given time, time varies due to the type of dermal filler and the brand. Results with today’s dermal fillers have been so good, many have chosen a liquid face lift, as opposed to traditional surgical face lifts. This treatment involves treating the total face with a combination of appropriate dermal fillers and sometimes botox as well. Along with great results dermal fillers are affordable, have little recovery time, less pain, and appear to be more natural looking as opposed to stretching the skin, like the process of a traditional face lift. Dermal fillers vary in thickness so they are versatile and can be used on several different sites, from small lines, to deep wrinkles, lip lines, smile lines, correcting scars, enhancing lips, enhancing hands, chin enhancement, correcting the nose tip, correcting dimples, and crow’s feet. These are some of the areas where dermal filler is used today, giving the skin a plumped up, more youthful look.
